Welcome
Family Promise of Cabarrus County is a local affiliate of the National Interfaith Hospitality Network, serving Cabarrus and Southern Rowan Counties in North Carolina.
We are comprised of a network of nine places of worship who will coordinate an environment that provides homeless families the opportunity to maintain a family unit and work toward independence.
With the help of volunteers and houses of worship, we provide fourteen people a place to feel safe, access to phones, social services, job counseling, nutritious meals, and a safe place to sleep. While the Cabarrus County Night Shelter provides a wonderful service, this network will enable families to stay together as a unit, in a more private environment where they maintain a sense of family as well as obtaining assistance to help them find permanent housing.

Cooperative Christian Ministry and Family Promise of Cabarrus County
08.16.10
The Nonprofit Boards of Cooperative Christian Ministry (CCM) and Family Promise
of Cabarrus County announced this week a decision to integrate the services of Family
Promise into CCM’s Shelter & Housing Ministry.
The church-based services for homeless families, modeled after the Interfaith Hospitality
Network, started in 2004 under the 501(c)(3) Family Promise of Cabarrus County. The
model is based on a rotation system as families are hosted for one week at a time in
the network of host churches. Volunteers and meals are provided by host and support
churches. The network currently consists of ten host churches and twelve support
churches in Cabarrus County.
By the middle of this summer the Board of Trustees of Family Promise of Cabarrus
County was struggling to overcome the effects of trying to build a nonprofit ministry
in a difficult economy. The founders had built a strong network of faith community
volunteers but needed the support that an established provider of crisis services could
provide. In June they approached Cooperative Christian Ministry to evaluate a strategic
alliance or integration.
A Joint Task Group determined the best solution to preserve the service model is
integration into Cooperative Christian Ministry. The Plan of Action recommended by
the Joint Task Group and approved by both boards calls for the dissolution of Family
Promise of Cabarrus County and a transfer of assets and services to Cooperative
Christian Ministry.
CCM will hire a full time Program Manager to coordinate the program services. The
Plan of Action includes a meeting on August 31st where CCM will detail their plan for
the church-based services and receive suggestions from network members. All network
churches and other interested community members are encouraged to attend.
